Stars of the Future meet 2013

St Felix School, Halesworth Road, Southwold, Suffolk, IP18 6SD

On Saturday afternoon 19 Development Squad and young Junior Squad swimmers headed to Bungay for Beccles Kingfishers ‘Stars of the Future Meet’.
One month in to training this year, all the swimmers were ready to show off the skills they had been developing in training. The dives were already much safer and faster than last week at the Iceni Meet. The oldest swimmers competing were 12 years old, so it gave our young swimmers an ideal opportunity to gain gala and racing experience.
The team won 27 medals in total:
8 Gold Medals
Afton Tolliday (9) 50m Breaststroke + 100m Individual Medley
Freya Holder (9) 50m Backstroke + 50m Freestyle
Joab Carr (9) 50m Butterfly + 100m Individual Medley
Freya Lines (11) 50m Breaststroke
Ruby Kelvey (12) 50m Breaststroke
8 Silver Medals
Afton Tolliday (9) 50m Freestyle
Joab Carr (9) 50m Backstroke
Maddie Wood (10) 50m Breaststroke
Freya Lines (11) 50m Butterfly + 50m Freestyle
Ruby Kelvey (12) 50m Butterfly + 50m Freestyle + 100m Individual Medley
11 Bronze Medals
Harrison Bell (8) 50m Freestyle + 50m Breaststroke + 100m Individual Medley
Afton Tolliday (9) 50m Butterfly
Liana Moore (9) 100m Individual Medley
Guy Kelvey (9) 50m Butterfly
Alfie Armstrong (10) 100m Individual Medley
Lindell Brown (11) 100m Individual Medley
Daisy Armstrong (12) 50m Freestyle + 100m Individual Medley
Ruby Kelvey (12) 50m Backstroke
With a relatively inexperienced team three swimmers still gained Suffolk county Qualification times. Joab Carr who recently turned 9 years old gained his 50m Backstroke, 50m Butterfly and 100m Individual Medley qualifying times. Afton Tolliday and Freya Holder (both 9) backed up last week’s results with similar times, again county Times.
A special mention to Harrison Bell, who only turned 8 years old last week, achieved this year’s 9 year old 100m Individual Medley county time. He is of course, too young this year!
Jessica Nesling (9), Mollie Barrett-Kelly (10), Joshua Stephens (10), Samuel Stephens (10), Daniel White (10), Lily Taylor (11) and Chloe Heil (12) all swam well, gaining some PB times and some swims finishing very close to medals!
I am pleased how the team showed great enthusiasm, determination and maturity all evening. Keep worked hard this season and the results will get better and better!
